Anyway, 1stly its a beast. 17 inches of HD dark brown awesome fury. Its a gorgeous looker and an outstanding performer. 2GHz 2nd gen i7 and 6770M ATi GFx Card makes this one siiiick play toy.

Now, specs are easy. Anyone can look them up, i'm going to talk about how it is to actually use.

Firstly, KB and mouse. KB is nice and its full size one too!. Good keys that are easy to press. I have gotten used to it quickly. ONLY thing people will not like is the face that the Fn keys have been remapped. Previously HP used to have a quick touch panel for volume, mute, wireless on/off etc. Now that has been replaced with the FN keys. To actually USE the function keys requires pressing FN + F6 etc. Now that is OK ish with me, ecept for F1. It has been mapped to windows help. Not too handy for games that use F1 for things or if you want to open an apps native help panel. Other than F11 (fullscreen) I can cope with the F keys, if it gets annoying i'll remap them or uninstall HP's quick launch driver.

Mouse pad is lovely and huge. No complaints. Lit up by a nice white square too :D

Screen + sound. Wow, HD Bright view is nice. No complaints, beautiful and crisp. Speakers are also nice, Beats audio + built in Sub makes for some lovely depth. Especially for laptop speakers.

Misc, Dual hedphone jack is another feature i'm glad to see on here. My previous DV5 had the jacks at the front. nice and handy. Now they are off to the side meaning cords knocking your arms a bit, especially with 2x people. Still. Get a bit comfy and find a good position.

HDD and power lights. Now how retarded can you get? the HDD and power are on the bottom right corner... on the SIDE of the laptop... i mean hell, might as well not include them they are so ridiculously annoying to see, it requires you to completely go horizontal and have a casual plank while you're at it to see them!

USB 3. Not yet used but so brag material :D

Shiny metal finish that is not a hopeless pink colour, really glad the "burn't umber" is dark brown unlike all the other Ham pink HP's I have seen. It looks gorgeous.

Overall performance: Runs a beaut! haven't stressed it much but the i7 is sweet as is the ATi GFx so far played WaW full Gfx and far cry 2 full gfx both run really smooth (not sure about FPS) Photoshop runs slicker than greased lighting.

The Benchmarking via windows EI Give the processor and RAM 7.4 graphics both aero and gaming 6.9 and the 5400 RPM 640 GB HDD a final score of 5.9

Also, the plastic covers for the RAM, wireless HDD etc have been replaced with a single cover... with no screws. Instead it has easy to break plastic tabs. Just what every 2000 dollar laptop should have right? so be careful :D

Pics later if wanted. If you have any questions ask away. The "review" is just a quick note on how I felt this lappy performs.

Basicly, I love it. Recommend to anyone who wants a solid powerhouse and entertainment center unless you like watching the HDD light flash. In which case, you be f**** Also, IT Express has the best price for it. Ordered Tuesday Night, arrived Tues Morning. Auckland to Rural delivery masterton.

1210115 2011-06-17 09:19:00 its a $400 price diff between a 1TB 7200 RPM, 6GB RAM and a bluray drive... but idk if bluray is rally worth it

2gb extra RAM and a 2nd HDD is all it needs but anyway, its not essential atm :D upgrade later!

90 ish for a tb HDD pricespy.co.nz

How long does the battery last typically (just a rough figure would be appreciated) in the real world (supposing yours is the 6-cell type)? Thanks for your review.

1210117 2011-07-09 04:24:00 I think its 6 cell, what ever the standard one is.

With the Standard GPU running, full screen bright and WiFi on, 1-2 hrs (about 1:30 from memory)

With the i7's on die GPU (power saving GPU) Half screen brightness and wireless off 4 hrs

It can get around 6 hrs with the "Normal" power plan engaged with the powers saving GPU, lowest screen brightness WiFi off, when the screen goes to sleep (screen not on) it can get about 8 hrs!! but thats not under load, just playing music or a video

So it can go for a good 5hrs with some power saving techniques and 1-2 hrs with everything going flat out. It seems pretty power efficient

Id love to see the extended battery on it!! probably get 12 hours or something :D

Yes, the 9 cell (100WH) battery would definitely be lovely. Thank you so much for your help and prompt reply!
