1209986 2011-06-17 04:54:00 I was with Slingshot until Oct 2009 when I switched to Telstraclear.
I should have noticed (but didn't) that I was still paying via direct debit every month to Slingshot.
Then when I noticed it, quickly stopped the payments and contacted Slingshot suggesting that as they had received a fair amount of money from me, which they hadn't earned, then perhaps they could return the money but first subtract some for their administration.
Nothing since then except two letters demanding the payments continue and they get bigger every month.

I use direct debit quite a lot but all the firms etc I make payments to send me an invoice each time before helping themselves. I would have thought this was a legal requirement. Slingshot did nothing.

What do you think?

I think it sounds fairly standard for Slingshot.

You might want to note - Telstra do the same thing too when you get sick of their crap customer service and leave.

So who is the best on average at the moment?

1209991 2011-06-17 22:11:00 Never setup direct debit. I always pay bills as they come in manually. Works for me Gobe1 (6290)

Reminds me of an old friend - sadly long gone now - but we both bought our first house at about the same time (1955).
"Tom" always paid his mortgage by going to the office which was 6 miles away, waiting in a queue and paying manually. This was done every fortnight. I have never seen inside a mortgage office for any of the 5 houses I have bought. In fact I have never even bothered with writing cheques etc. It amazes me when people do not use automatic systems - but I do agree we should watch out for just the sort of error I have made with Slingshot.

1209994 2011-06-18 01:02:00 Some good comments but so far nobody has been able to tell me if it is a legal requirement that firms receiving payment by direct debit notify the payee that it is either received or about to be. Thomas01 (317)
1209995 2011-06-18 01:09:00 Don't know if it's a legal requirement, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense and I'd be demanding it! pine-o-cleen (2955)
