1209277 2011-06-14 10:54:00 I was under the impression that you could get the bulk of your tax back if you work while still at school?

Although apparently IRD have other ideas. :annoyed:

Total tax paid (total tax deducted at source) $1,297.17
Less extinguished Tax Credits for Payroll donations $0.00
Tax refund $218.01

Could you elaborate? I'm not quite sure I get what you mean?

1209280 2011-06-14 11:02:00 You say the IRD have their own ideas, so that implies that you have gotten those figures from the IRD.

Well you don't have to take their word for it, you can get the forms and work out your own tax. Its a little difficult but nothing that can't be handled.

Fill out an IR3 return; the calculation process for that will show you exactly what you're entitled to :).

Urgh, according to their site If you're registered with a password, login to your online services account and select the IR3 return from "My income tax".

Pity I can't find anything about the IR3 on my online services :groan:

Clicking the login link here (www.ird.govt.nz) just takes me back to my online services welcome screen.

I'm going round in circles, might just call them tomorrow.

1209283 2011-06-14 11:42:00 You'll probably need a personalised paper return form to be able to complete the online return (dumbness only the IRD can achieve), because you need a " Document Lodgement Number (DLN)" to file online. This is supplied by the IRD.

The link for the online return is www.ird.govt.nz

1209285 2011-06-14 11:46:00 As a percentage of income earned, that refund isn't too shabby! johcar (6283)

Mate of mine earned $4900, paid $600 tax and gets $300 back. Looks like he gets basically 1/2 back, I get 1/3? I'm curious as to how that actually works.
