Apologies accepted. I was hoping it was the horrible texting rather than a poor education.

1210070 2011-06-18 02:49:00 I wouldn't stress out too much aidanmaz. I've travelled a fair bit and I am yet to come across an airport which is poorly signposted or confusing. I never bother looking at airport maps beforehand. When you check in for your flight, the person at the counter will usually tell you what you need to do when you land - i.e. "go <here> to transfer to your next flight", whether you need to pick up onward boarding passes, and what happens to your luggage.

Re: laptops - you must take them out of your bag to put through the x-ray when going through security (they generally ask you if you have a laptop, and if so will tell you to take it out and put it into a tray). There's generally no need to declare what's on your hard drive unless you're asked. I generally also take out my keys, wallet, cellphone etc. and put it in the same tray as my laptop, to avoid triggering off the metal detector.

If your flight to LAX is delayed for whatever reason, and it looks like you're going to have very little time to transfer to your next flight, tell the airline staff before you board your flight. This happened to me recently where my flight to Hong Kong was delayed by about an hour, which gave me very little time to transfer onto my connecting flight back to Auckland. They arranged for my luggage to be given priority handling, and for someone to meet me at the gate, take me to the transfer counter to pick up my onward boarding pass, escort me through the relevant customs/security screening and onto my connecting flight.

I would also highly recommend you pack a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in case your suitcase gets lost or delayed.

:thumbs:When I arrived in LAX my luggage didn't for three days so I learnt to have quite a few things in the carry on luggage.

1210072 2011-06-18 03:01:00 I have lugguage insurance, and im not too concerned as im packing minimal since i want to buy stuff in canada. Im more concerned at getting lost, since im a master at getting lost in a carpark building. :-) i pretty much have it sorted. my travel agent said i grab my lugguage go through customs, and put lugguage at transit station. then i can go to the departure terminal and check in. then i can relax. Does that sound right? aidanmaz (7180)
1210073 2011-06-18 03:05:00 A workmate of mine will not go through the US after his experience at LAX.
He and his fellow passengers had guns draw by security on them and told "up againest the wall",etc. Then were told afterwards it was just an "exercise".

A great way to treat guests in your country.

What pathetic idiots creating an exercise like that. They would've looked great if someone had had a heart attack because of it.
I'm not interested in going near a USA airport again after a transit stop in Hawaii. Had I known it was going to be so bad I would have gone through immigration to spend my time outside.
