1209479 2011-06-20 22:24:00 I'm of the opinion the Maori seats need to be abolished entirely. That, and this split will divide the Maori voters which could effectively reduce the Maori representation in parliament further...

It will be a great day when the Maori seats are not required.

1209481 2011-06-20 22:26:00 Mana shmana that word gets used way too much these days

1209482 2011-06-20 22:29:00 I think you have completely missed the point this is New Zealand the population are New Zealanders and parliament should reflect that, there should be one parliament with elected only politicians representing New Zealand and New Zealanders.

There should not be politicians in parliament simply because their ancestors arrived in a canoe, ate someone else's family, hugged a tree or two (greenies) etc. I get extremely pissed off when people push a point saying they need there own race in parliament yet they don't get voted in :2cents:

I think we should embrace and celebrate diversity, but I am looking forward to the day when Maori seats are not needed. Perhaps once we have taken back our country from the banksters and multinational locusts?

1209485 2011-06-20 23:11:00 And as Asians are getting to the stage where they are now almost outnumbering Maori perhaps they too should be granted seats in Parliament as of right just to be fair to all. Snorkbox (15764)

What utter nonsense are you on about the country belongs to everyone who is a New Zealander.

Explain yourself instead of just making random stupid comments

Don't say that, or it'll be mandatory for teachers to learn and pass on Mandarin to their students next, as it is with Maori.

The language itself is dying, I read somewhere recently that something like 3/4 Maoris can't even semi-fluently speak their own language. What a joke ...

In my not so humble opinion, compulsory Mandarin would be more useful than compulsory Maori for many students as we now have a free trade agreement with China.

I still wonder whatever happened with Esperanto BTW.

The purpose of any language is surely to communicate ideas, thoughts and your intentions to another party or parties. If I were in a plane crash and survived in the Congo for example I guess I may find that my Kiwi English would help me more than Te Reo Maori would.

Goes off, stage left, to learn txt speak. :help:
