1236579 2011-10-11 06:52:00 ...just the default settings accessed from the black cog. Nothing special required other than knowing what settings to enter for your server. Are you sure you're not confusing Outlook with Exchange?

Out of the box, Android will sync perfectly well with Exchange (email, calendar, contacts, & corporate address books), but can't talk to Outlook at all.

Exchange is Microsoft's mailserver product, Outlook is their desktop client software.

1236580 2011-10-11 18:14:00 Yeah Android natively has no method to sync with Outlook. Google Mail is capable of emulating Exchange, thats how you can get an iOS device sync'ing OTA.

Google Mail is definitely the most hassle-free sync method, without a doubt, even if you have to upload from Outlook to Google Mail and then sync it back down again...

You are quite right - I am talking Exchange!

1236582 2011-10-14 22:43:00 I have Outlook with no Exchange Server. I have Outlook leaving mail on the server for x days. Setup Google mail to check my mail with pop (leaving mail on the server) and my phone sync with this. I can send mail OK but of course this doesn't sync with Outlook so have to use phone or Google Mail to check sent mail if required - rarely.

Contacts are manually exported out of Outlook in CSV format and imported into Google Contacts. These then sync with the phone. If I update contact details I have to manually import and export from both Google and Outlook.

Google Calendar sync works fine and sync all calendar appointments and meeting requests. It does not do reminders or Tasks. There is an app for Tasks that I found worked but a bit clunky and didn't always load the add-on in Outlook 2010. It can be found here www.gassumo.com

If anyone has found a better way I would love to hear it!!

1236583 2011-10-15 00:37:00 Yup, use Gmail, have it poll your POP mailbox.
Then, setup Outlook to use Gmail via IMAP.

:D

:DThis is assuming you're using Outlook 2010 - in my experience, IMAP performance on versions prior to this *really* sucks.

I just use it from the browser. There's bugger all to be gained by using Outlook these days...

I could do this but Gmail only checks for mail about every 40mins and I can't see an option to change this. There are times when this is to long between checks. I am often on the phone and be sending emails back and forth with the caller and need to be able to check mail often.

Otherwise using imap to gmail would work fine.

1236588 2011-10-15 11:10:00 Setup a forwarding rule then with your POP mail, usually you can do this from your ISP's Webmail system or whatever. Happens instantly then, rather than being polled semi-randomly... Chilling_Silence (9)
