1210106 2011-06-17 10:52:00 Then there were decatron counters, en.wikipedia.org and octal based nixie tubes (I think they were called nixie too, maybe had another colloquial name) that were viewed end on with the digits layered one on top of the other like the vertical tubes.

Magic eye tubes were used in radios as tuning signal strength indicators, and also as high impedance null indicators in valve bridge measuring equipment.

There were some interesting valve types in days of yore :banana

I bought some early 90s Russian VFDs on eBay a while back, to make a clock out of.

It's almost finished but there is a fault somewhere in the boost converter circuit... still trying to get my hands on a frequency counter for diagnostics :lol:
