1461869 2019-06-30 10:19:00 I am well on the way to finished with setting up my new computer.

However, I have failed with what I think is my last task - to set up Audacity 2.1.2 as my default app for .mp3 files. I use this for editing the voice/music files I put in the AVs I put together for a couple of clubs I am in.

I know this programme well, and am completely comfortable with it, and have it successfully set up on the other three (out of four computers I use on a regular basis. So far, on this new lappy, it has totally defeated me (and I am having cognitive test as part of my driving licence assessment later this week..).Do you think I will fail? :)

As always - your help is always appreciated getting me out of pickles.

1461870 2019-06-30 10:46:00 Go to Settings - into Apps - Default apps - Scroll down and click Choose default applications by File type - ( takes a while to populate) Scroll to .mp3 - click it change to what you want. wainuitech (129)
1461871 2019-06-30 11:09:00 Yes - I did that. But Audacity 2.1.2 wouldn’t show up as an option. Grump!

And I went round in circles trying to get it to show up. I saved a file from Audacity, but it still wasn’t available the next time I tried choose a new default file.

.

No.
It's not forgetting where your keys are - it's forgetting what they are FOR.

Unless you are asked to change the default for a file during your test, I think you'll be fine. LOL.

maybe reinstall the program?

( long way around) Go to a .mp3, right click it, Open With - Scroll Down the List to the bottom - Choose another App -- If its not there, scroll down the list - more Apps - if still not there - Click on look For apps on this PC, a window will open, from the address bar ( or left) C Drive - Program Files (X86) - Locate the Audacity Folder, open and select Audacity.exe

1461874 2019-06-30 23:07:00 Yes - but I still don't get the option to 'look for apps on this PC'. I just get 'Look for an app in the Microsoft Store" which then finds Audacity 2 - not the version I would prefer...

I will do some research on the difference between the 2 versions of Audacity and see what I find.

1461875 2019-06-30 23:21:00 Ok - I have a more serious look... And find that I can use the new app Audacity 2 without any hiccups - so that will have to do. But you do understand that it annoys me not be able to get to where I want to/and the programme I prefer. And I do realise I am being a little OCD on this (and a few other things too).

And I am also pleased to tell you that I am not required to have a cogitative assessment by a nurse... :)

1461876 2019-07-01 00:34:00 Wainuitech's instructions in post #5 work for me. You are useing File Explorer to do this? Not the Default Apps page found in Settings? CliveM (6007)
1461877 2019-07-01 01:41:00 Did that - and nope, that doesn't work either... :( R.M. (561)
1461878 2019-07-01 01:46:00 However... On further investigation, I find that Audacity 2 is a more recent version - and I should be upgrading and using that. Oh dear - I do feel that dementia is setting in.

So - thanks for the helpful comments, I appreciate your help.
