| 1466470 | 2020-02-14 19:29:00 | The black plague originated in China as well Which one? First pandemic The first recorded epidemic affected the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) and was named the Plague of Justinian after emperor Justinian I, who was infected but survived through extensive treatment Second pandemic In the Late Middle Ages (13401400) Chinese records also showed a huge outbreak in Mongolia in the early 1330s.[32] Research published in 2002 suggests that it began in early 1346 in the steppe region, where a plague reservoir stretches from the northwestern shore of the Caspian Sea into southern Russia. The Mongols had cut off the trade route, the Silk Road, between China and Europe which halted the spread of the Black Death from eastern Russia to Western Europe. The epidemic began with an attack that Mongols launched on the Italian merchants' last trading station in the region, Caffa in the Crimea. Third pandemic The plague resurfaced for a third time in the mid-19th century. This one also originated in Eastern Asia, most likely in Yunnan Province of China or the possible Bronzeage one, but we'll never know, only that organisms were found then too. Now, people in the US have had it too, recently. |

| 1466475 | 2020-03-11 20:34:00 | www.stuff.co.nz How on earth do they expect to contain the spread of the virus when you have idiot medical people like this? "Italian health officials say about 10 percent of medical workers in the Lombardy region have been infected. Costantino Troise, the head of the medical union Anaao Assomed, said medical workers accounted for about 5 percent of infections in Italy" "Lombardys top health official, Giulio Gallera, told Bloomberg that the region had dedicated 80% of its 1,123 acute-care beds to coronavirus. But Pesenti said that according to some forecasts, Lombardy could have 18,000 hospitalized coronavirus patients by March 26, between 2,700 and 3,200 of whom would require acute care." When it gets bad , it gets really bad. NZ hospitals cant cope when there isnt an epidemic , so we'll be completely stuffed when it gets out of control here . |

| 1466476 | 2020-03-12 00:44:00 | 10% infected does not mean 10% in dire about to die health. One here commented her infected husband only had a "tiny" cough and that was about it. Save the beds for the extremely ill, whatever the illness or cause. |

| 1466477 | 2020-03-12 03:25:00 | 10% infected does not mean 10% in dire about to die health. One here commented her infected husband only had a "tiny" cough and that was about it. Save the beds for the extremely ill, whatever the illness or cause. 10% infected means 400,000 in NZ assuming its 10% in NZ , 57,000 will NEED hospitalization , 11,000 will need Intensive Care (see below) . We cant provide ICU for 11,000 patients, so they will die . A few comments by those with mild symptoms is meaningless. Those in hospital arnt making these stupid comments to the media . Would the Chinese have been panic building hospitals for a 'mild cough' :) www.theguardian.com "Most will have no or mild illness but maybe one in seven will need hospital admission. Of patients in hospital up to one in five may need ICU care that would be an unprecedented number of people admitted to ICU. As many as one in 50 of patients known to have Covid-19 may die from it." Just a flu eh,a mild cough. Take a look at whats happening in Italy, their hospitals are about to collapse under the load as staff are pushed beyond breaking point . I suspect statistics will change as we get more data from Italy over the next few weeks , we cant rely on stats from China . |
