The people who were here when the english turned up were Maori, they started wars - like happened elsewhere and stayed. As for the language, they did refer to the passing of time, however they did it then, after all they had their own new years....and language changes, maori are not allowed to add new words but it's ok for English? English is one giant mish mash of other languages now. Neither maori nor pakeha had TVs, tablets, smatphones or all sorts of things ages ago, so, you don't give them a word then? No different to other languages in the world who add to their language. Can't think why you must spend so much time denigrating them...........go chill out and do something productive. |

Every race has things to be ashamed of in their past and unfortunately in the present. If you are going to judge a whole race by the worst members then I'm afraid you don't come out any better than anyone else. |

I speak of ownership of the Seabed and Foreshore, Airwaves, Water, you name it. To make matters worse the basis for these claims is quite outrageous. Take for instance Mount Maunganui, now renamed Mauao. The Council has given the extinct volcano back to the local Iwi, whilst still footing the bill for its maintenance. HERE (www.mountmaunganui.org.nz) is the background to this entitlement. Then there is the matter of the North Island, where the claims to ownership are even more bizarre. HERE (www.newzealand.com) The Race based claims seem endless and mostly pursued by those with Celtic Surnames claiming to be Maori. :groan: |
