1462445 2019-07-17 22:25:00 What? They're going ot of business? Having to change to phone repairs instead?
I doubt it.

Like I said before, most problems with malware at least, are self inflicted.
And Windows whatever, never had that many issues, I never did. Extremely rarely. Despite me not patching it.

LOL, or maybe because of it? Actual repairs to Windows 10 like and the amount of work like XP- W7 caused is HIGHLY reduced. Mind you some techs make work for themselves by not doing the job correctly in the first place.

The ACTUAL problems with Windows 10 OS (excluding malware) has dropped steady since it came out. at least 80% of my work these days is NON Windows 10, its mainly other software or various hardware problems.

If you were still in business you would see this trend. You may not have updated Windows in the past but things have changed since then in several ways.

Seen it MANY times some other techs have been in to a person and don't have a clue as to whats available. Had one just yesterday - She rang me saying she needed to get into the control panel - Printers - called (wont say who) , they came around, they charged her for a service and left telling her W10 has had the control panel removed long time ago -- REALLY -- told her how to get to in in a few seconds. She called me back about 30 minutes later, and made an appointment to go and sort out their 2 servers, check all the office computers as well as upgrade office on several computers.

Another customer - who does a lot of software testing before installing in the work machines, was over the moon to find out about the new Sandbox, yet MANY people don't even know it exists, and doesn't in earlier versions, so if you don't upgrade you miss out.

1462446 2019-07-18 01:11:00 1101 is that 1903 sitting on my lappy ok to download??.

Most of the previous updates seemed to have been automatic and of course created problems.

When first commented on, W10 was very quick to load, but now one can almost go and make a cup of coffee!!.

Best thing now is the shutdown in under 4 seconds, that's under 4 seconds.

Yes we run all the crap cleaners on our computers'.

LOL, or maybe because of it?

MS are no longer properly bug checking Winupdates .
And doing a manual check for updates now sends through updates that have an even lower level of bug checking (why MS, why)
Minor bugs that most wont notice like Event Viewer no longer working, or major bugs in updates like deleting all your cloud docs :badpc:

So not patching could be a good thing in some ways. Not updating has kept telemetry off my home Win7 .

Im updating all the new laptops I sell to 1903 before I send them out. Perfectly OK on new, clean machines :)
Its going to update to 1903 eventually, may as well do it when its convenient for you rather than have it happen when you're not expecting it.
Usually its the state of the PC/laptop causing major issues rather than updates themselves, provided you wait for any bugs to be sorted out rather than rush in and install major build updates ASAP just for the sake of doing it.

Every OS was relatively fast to load when we first get the PC . As years go by, more & more gets installed, that all wants to run at startup & do cloud syncs, AV scans etc, slowing down startup times.
Installing a SSD is the best way to make startups faster . Or just disable all the apps that want to load up win Win starts.

1462449 2019-07-18 02:09:00 1101, thanks for that.

Had my BH's pc given a SSD, (mother's day present), and she can't say whether that's been any improvement in speed. Makes all sorts of cards from pininterest website.

lurking. Cant you bump it up to 900 ??

Most Fibre plans top out at 200Mbps unless you are paying big $$$$

On Fibrex Max - 900Mbps is not uncommon. Its rare that even on full speed fibre you'll get top end.

1462451 2019-07-19 00:21:00 wai, we will have to get a tech in and see what's going on.

Enable have been in the street setting others' up, so they can't be far away from setting us up, don't like the way they are doing it, along fence-lines and under driveways. It used to be by submarine tubing and blown through to under house, friend in Halswell said this was the way it should be done, tooo expensive now no doubt.

Had a hell of a time getting ClearNet to repair their cable across council footpath, Vodafone finally came to the party.
