1461846 2019-07-01 05:30:00 From what you say, it would seem therefore that only the AC works. Have you checked for a Manual from Toshiba via Google to see if there is a hardware setting to use both AV and/or Battery? Bryan (147)
1461847 2019-07-01 05:42:00 Try this from my Tecra file:///C:/Users/Bryan/Desktop/Utilities/Toshiba/r830r840r850-userguide.pdf

Refer to Sections 5 and 6 and do note that the battery pack should not be removed if the AC power is attached. Also, have you left the battery attached and fully charged the battery? Could be that the battery is just flat and needs a decent charge!

1461848 2019-07-01 06:18:00 This is a long shot, but weirder things have happened before with Toshiba's :D

Try a static discharge. Remove the battery & power Adaptor, then press and hold power about button 30 seconds. It will seem like a long 30 Seconds (yes of course it wont start :p ) This discharges all the built up / Stored power in the laptop.

Put the battery back in without the power adaptor, press the power Button, see if it boots.

LOL, Well It wont beat one job I did last week, The person Said they had no internet plus they wanted some other work done, I asked were the lights on The Modem - YES, OK so went out, modems completely dead - Power Adaptor sitting on the floor unplugged. Plugged it back in, away it went ;)

Did remainder of work.

1461852 2019-07-02 07:17:00 With just the battery in the orange AC/battery light flashes...hmmmm globe (11482)
1461853 2019-07-02 07:33:00 The flashing orange LED indicates a charging problem. Could be the power adaptor, motherboard, or Battery , but its meant to be a new Battery.

If it were me I'd be trying another Power Adaptor 1st, making sure its the correct output.

A Power adaptor that is under powered will start a Laptop without the battery, but not enough to charge it.

My Toshiba I use for outside in the BBQ area is similar, mind you it runs off mains anyway because I never take it anywhere and the battery is all but useless so its not even installed.

Yeah, I wondered whether that could be the problem but like I said the charger is the original so unless it's knackered. It is a brand new battery out of the box from PB tech and the OS says it is 100% charged also. Hmmmm, getting a replacement AC unit could be tricky, I'll have a sniff around work and see if there's one kicking about, cheers

Is there a way of telling what AC charger output is required?

Is there a way of telling what AC charger output is required? The output required will be on the back of the computer, Toshiba have two Voltages 19 ( common) and 15 Volt with varying Watt.

Example of Mine, well worn ( sorry picture is not that good) 19V 6.34A The Toshiba power Adaptor I looked at to get a pic is 19V 3.42A, this is the one that doesn't have a battery.

Power Adaptors like anything else can fail. Really its a case of try different things until all possible options are eliminated. Actually seen where a battery will work fine in one laptop, but the same battery wont in another (all same Models of Laptop)
