| 1467107 | 2020-03-25 00:30:00 | It's not. All bottle stores are closing tonight. Aren't they?? Apparently not; if your local liquor store is run by a Licensing Trust that outlet remains open. If it's a local bottle shop privately owned and operated or even an established chain, those are closed. Beer and wine sold by a supermarket is not affected. I feel though for my local bottle shop proprietor. His, like many others throughout the country will have to close their doors at midnight tonight. I seriously doubt he'll be able to reopen. Cashflow is the life blood of business, and overnight, that will totally cease. Margins are small compared with other FMCG lines, and this guy is going to be stuck with an extensive selection and variety of beer, wines, and spirits - most paid for in advance but others on strict 7 or 14 day payments to the wholesalers. The best he'll be able to hope for is the wholesaler will buy back any excess stock either in the interim period or at worst case, when the receivers are called in. |

| 1467109 | 2020-03-25 02:20:00 | The wine industry is exempt . And the beer industry . So why the exception for booze ? More important than building houses it seems . Booze is hardly an essential service . Neither is CocaCola covid19.govt.nz "Any entity involved in the packaging, production and processing of food and beverage products" When you start making stupid exemptions ...... |

I presume they can sell spirits so I guess South East and North Aucklanders will be over here to buy piss. At my work buying piss was top of the agenda for this lockdown we originaly thought we would have to go to supermarkets at Kumeu or Titirangi and no spirits. But that wouldn't be fair so the trust liquor stores have to remain open. There is a god. |
