1466075 2020-01-17 06:06:00 Yes, I have been seduced by the dark side :)

My son suggested I get an Apple TV box and use it for Sky Sport Now so as to avoid the continual hassle I have every 6 month when I negotiate the price to pay for Basic + Sport when I don't even want Basic. At least they will talk now which is a great improvement over their previous stonewalling for so many years. I get a pretty good deal now as I was going to leave them at the time that Spark Sport had the RWC. This deal expires in February and I doubt I will get a continuation of the current rate. Hence the thought of streaming Sky.

It is quite an interesting piece of equipment and comes with a pretty shiny remote which, to my mind, is a real crock of shite. Especially, I thought as my hands don't always work as they should due to stroke on the left side and spinal damage causing problems on the right side. Of course, it is so small and shiny that I keep dropping the stupid thing for reasons I stated. My son (who is a bit of a fanboy) whispered that he dislikes it intensely as well and suggested I use the TV remote which is set for "Control by HDMI" This is what he does and I tried it today. What a huge improvement. Quite simple to operate the box now.

He also had quite a job setting it up as it didn't want to talk to my Win 10 laptop, I had no accounts with Apple and no Apple Music. One of the silly things was that the alphabetical display for signing in was one straight row. ABC........XYZ and if you used Z then needed A next you had to go back 26 places. Why not divided into 3 rows, or be able to click to the right to go straight from Z to A. Mind you, I will admit that that screen looked pretty, if not practical. .;) Things like this was the main barrier to me being able to set it up with the touch remote and having to get help. But, I guess I am not the target customer that they aim for.

OK, my rating of the box...I would give it a 7. My rating of the remote...... maybe a well earned 2.

1466076 2020-01-17 06:37:00 I say, Apple for Apple, not Apple for Windows whatever.....Apple anything is designed for other Apple products ......you shouldn’t seriously expect otherwise ? I have an Apple IMac, but don’t have Apple TV thingy box.... have Netflix just like anyone else that have to mortgage their house just to pay for it ..... Lol!

1466077 2020-01-17 07:10:00 My son installed it using his iPhone after trying the laptop. My 2 year old Panasonic Smart TV doesn't have the Sky Sport app and apparently not going to have it any time in the future. The other alternative was to stream from my phone or tablet using a Chromecast device but having seen one in use, I thought the Apple TV would have a better picture. This was correct. :)
Like I said, the box was OK but I couldn't work the remote with the problems I have. Now I am OK having circumvented the problem by using the TV remote and HDMI control.

1466078 2020-01-17 08:45:00 Mine is never connected to any machine, unless it’s via Plex. No idea why you’d want to connect it to any pc.

As a stand-alone device they’re great. Well supported by New Zealand content sites and remote short comings aside a much better experience than a chromecast

1466079 2020-01-17 09:08:00 Sorry, I may not have put that right. I wasn't trying to connect the box to the computer. I was trying to get Apple music signed up on the box but it was hopeless trying to input email, password and user name with the remote. Son came in for a cuppa and tried same, got annoyed so hooked up to his iphone and did it easily. It was the remote that was the problem. Not made for someone who has a problem with their old hands.
