1238024 2011-10-17 07:19:00 Hi there,

Trying to sort a wee problem out for a friend.....

They have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop with Vista 32.

The only problem is the wireless internet connection, which was working fine until the other night.

I've had a look at it, and the computer doesn't detect the wireless card at all.

It's not in Device Manager at all.

I have updated the laptops chipset drivers, have checked bios etc.

I have opened the laptop and the card is seated in there just fine.

Any ideas? Is this a dead card, or something else?

1238025 2011-10-17 08:42:00 I have sometimes had the same problem with my Asus Eeee701. To fix it I shut it down, remove the charger, remove the battery, then hold the start (power on) button down for 30 seconds. Refit the battery and then 'power on'. Don't ask me why, but it works. May not work on the Aspire. mzee (3324)

This one really has me beat. The card must be dead, eh?

1238027 2011-10-17 09:21:00 Possibly - best way to check would be to use some sort of boot disk and seeing if it detects the network card.

Replacing it shouldn't be too expensive though.

1238029 2011-10-17 09:35:00 Turned the computer off? Yep. camo (4895)
1238030 2011-10-18 01:20:00 No! Have you disabled the wireless by turning that function off? PENTIUM (426)
1238031 2011-10-18 02:11:00 Whoops....sorry.

The laptop has a wireless on/off button. Pressing the button brings up a message "no wireless device" down the bottom of the screen, and makes no difference in the Device Manager.

I have taken the card out and reseated it to make sure it was inserted correctly.

I have tried everything...I guess the card must be dead?

1238032 2011-10-18 02:52:00 Internal (built in) wireless card or some sort of USB device ?? 1101 (13337)
1238033 2011-10-18 02:54:00 It's an internal card.

It's an Atheros AR5007EG card.
