1238000 2011-10-17 05:54:00 Hi folks

I have tried with no avail to insert either 2010 Excel Spreadsheet (or Pdf'd file) into a 2010 Publisher generated newsletter with either the PDF coming up as a link icon or Excel shrinking in size and once expanded, it becomes distorted.

It appears i need to PDF the newsletter first, then insert single page pdf'ed Excel spreadsheet in right location.

Any alternatives?

:thanks Jos

1238001 2011-10-17 07:45:00 Welcome to PF1 -- have you tried Insert -- object (its in the ribbon / text section), then navigate to the file you want ?

Just tried it with a couple of PDF's and it worked fine, a spread sheet turned to :yuck:

Thanks for your response, but that is the option i was already using .

1) . . . . insert/object/select file/create from file/select EXCEL file (2010) it is not original size ansd unfocused when adjusted back to page size

1) . . . . insert/object/select file/create from file/select PDF file, . . it comes up as an PDF icon in middle of the screen and will then open up once clicked . This still is no good if am going to send it out via email .

Any other ideas?

1238003 2011-10-17 23:44:00 Have you tried Nitro PDF (free program) not sure if it will work in your situation, have a look and see. Arnie (6624)
1238004 2011-10-18 00:31:00 Thanks Arnie but Nitro does similar with Publisher inserting a Icon in the middle of the pages to be then activated.

Is this maybe a result of internal instructions in the original setup with the program?

1238005 2011-10-18 01:32:00 The reasoning supplied doesn't really make sense

Originally started
2010 Publisher generated newsletter with either the PDF coming up as a link icon

But then later saying
it comes up as an PDF icon in middle of the screen and will then open up once clicked . This still is no good if am going to send it out via email .

So it seems that is what was originally asked ????

How else is a person meant to open the embedded file if not clicking on it , unless the content of the PDF or spreadsheet was done as a separate page altogether . ?

Have a look through HERE ( . microsoft . com/en-us/publisher-help/save-and-send-publications-HA101792296 . aspx#_Toc298895373" target="_blank">office . microsoft . com) one of the options to send as emails may suit .

Is this maybe a result of internal instructions in the original setup with the program add-a-pdf-to-your-office-file ( . microsoft . com/en-us/word-help/add-a-pdf-to-your-office-file-HA102351554 . aspx#_Toc283378803" target="_blank">office . microsoft . com) -- its by design - MS shows ways to do it . 1238006 2011-10-18 01:55:00 Hi W

Maybe in my Dutch way i am not making myself clear in words

The end goal is for this 24 page newsletter ( that is created in 2010 Publisher) is to insert a couple of existing pages created through Excel 2010 and also another PDF file so that on the end of the day there will be 24 pages of continuous material for people to read. Most recipients will receive the newsletter in the mail. as it is now, the inserted PDF file doesn't display as an opened up full page ( like it does in Publisher 2007) but rather it comes across as a small PDF life click on icon on the centre of the designated page within the publication.

In otherwords i do not want the icon, but the opened displayed version of that file to be part of the Newsletter.

Previously with Publisher 2003, i would combine the required single page through the PDF program (Document/Insert Page) and resolve it that way, but this would always mean that the final Publisher file would be missing the single PDF page.

Hope this clarifies

1238007 2011-10-18 01:59:00 Hi W
I also note that the required information that i am inserting is a complete page worth of information and is supposed to take up a whole page within the Publisher 2010 Newsletter.

1238008 2011-10-18 06:12:00 A fairly unprofessional solution is to turn the Excel pages into images. Maximize the Excel window, and enlarge the scaling of the page to the point where it just fills the available screen area. Printscreen button will save the image to RAM. Open Paint and Paste the image. Move the image up and left to eliminate the edges of the Excel App from the image, and draw in the exposed right and bottom sides to achieve the same on the other edges. Save as image (greyscale or B&W if all in B&W - to save on filesize), then simply place these images into Publisher.

I find a tad of contrast is lost with this technique, but for just one or two pages it sure saves a lot of pain finding the more professional solution.

Meh.

1238009 2011-10-18 07:13:00 I am using older versions of Publisher and Excel, but Insert>Object>'Create from File'>Select 'Adobe'> [open desired file] drops it into Publisher where it appears initially with diagonal hatching . Closing the source document then leaves the selected file open in Publisher and able to be resized and dragged around to suit . I tried Excel and did get that in too, but I had some weird effects .

What I did notice during the process though, were check-boxes to insert as a link or an icon, so watch out for those . Unticking one or other of those boxes let me get the Excel doc in OK but there were possible resizing issues that I don't have time to pursue .

If I needed to do what you require, at that stage I would have given up on inserting native Excel, PDF'd the page and dumped that in . It is the path I usually follow when producing reports that require other document formats and illustrations etc nserted .

Cheers
