| 1237774 | 2011-10-15 21:32:00 | Hi, someone says his yahoo account has been overtaken by someone and been used for spam. People from his address book have been sending him spam. Other than changing the password for the account, what other things can he do? :thanks |

If someone had hacked HIS account it would be sending out emails FROM him TO everyone in his address book. The way its written he is Receiving spam from everyone in the address book :confused: Bold in the quote. If he is receiving spam, thats not from his account, unless you wanted to spam your own account. You can change the password, that may sort it for a while but then again if its been hacked it may also be sending the new password to the hacker. he's had the account for over 10yrs. Doesn't matter if its ten years or one day - they can still be open to being hacked. Thats one problem with free web based accounts - no one to really talk to if something happens like this. |

Unlikely, spoofing the addresses, using known addresses etc. I've had spam from xxx@mydomainname, come to me, can't say I immediately thought it really came from that address. To stop spam, don't have your address all over the net, run spam filtering and train it regularly. |
