1237642 2011-10-15 01:51:00 Well, i'm getting $300 at xmas from my parents (my as my sister got a $300 ipod touch) and on top of that i'll get money from relatives. So i'm estimating around nearly $400.

So i've decided i want to build a new pc. I don't need new keyboards, or monitors etc (keyboard and mouse are ps/2, and monitors are vga, secondary monitor has vga to dvi connector)

What i currently have (my current system):

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2.4Ghz)
Gigabyte Motherboard (unsure of the model number)
GeForce 6600 256MB (am wanting to eventually replace it, but current onboard video cards probably beat the ass off this card)
1.5GB DDR RAM (it's DDR400, ancient stuff).
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit
2x 160GB IDE Hard Drives (am wanting to still use these if possible)

I also wish to still use my 2 ide dvd writers, as there's nothing wrong with them, they work fine etc..
I also need at least 1 normal PCI slot for my tv tuner card.

So, please offer your opinions on components etc.. I'm not wanting to build something epic, but something that's just gonna get me more up to date.

So i basically want, a motherboard and CPU (will use my current pc case) and some ram.

Also try and get a 500Gb hard drive as most MBs only have 1 IDE now, time to upgrade from those IDEs ;)

1237647 2011-10-15 06:39:00 Might pay to check your power supply is up to taking on a bit more load. Driftwood (5551)

It's 450w. So it should be good.

1237649 2011-10-15 08:51:00 See if you can stretch the budget to an AMD Phenom instead of Athlon. Maybe Trademe for a used CPU? sahilcc7 (15483)

1237651 2011-10-15 23:02:00 450 watts means nothing if it's a crappy Hyena. Agent_24 (57)
