1237287 2011-10-13 06:13:00 My Telecom Thomson has been difficult once too often... Tonight it took over an hour to connect to the internet. :(

What are people's suggestions? I have one desktop, and one laptop and visitors from time to time who need to connect wirelessly. OS Windows 7.

As always - TIA :thanks

1237289 2011-10-13 06:47:00 I went with chil's recommendation and got a NETCOMM NB6PLUS4Wn to replace a first generation D-link G604T

Have a bit more speed, suppose most are better than a G604T

1237292 2011-10-13 18:43:00 Hi Chill
We copped a lightning strike the other day (rural) and the DLINK was fried (nice flash). So a call to Telecom resulted in a Thomson being purchased from them. The Wondows 7 laptops seem to connect fine, but the TC4200 running Windows XP tablet edition simply won't connect on wireless unless you're in "administrator" mode - which the kids are not allowed to do since they seem to land on really dodgy sites when they are surfing (lesson learnt after a couple of full hard disk reformats to remove deeply embedded malware). Any suggestions on a fixit? (including changing to another modem that might work with XP tablet edition)

1237293 2011-10-13 18:59:00 Is that *just* this WiFi on the Thomson? Or all wireless routers (As in, did it do that for your D-Link too)? Chilling_Silence (9)
1237294 2011-10-13 19:07:00 The D-Link worked fine with the TC4200 - I think it's just this WiFi on the Thomson.

(Too scared to upgrade the TC4200 to Windows 7 - don't know what functionality I'd lose - several times after an XP update, I have had to find and restore a driver specific to the tablet)

1237295 2011-10-13 22:04:00 Yeah the Thomsons are renouned for "funny issues", but I'm pretty sure this may be because of the WPS button.

Something to try: Make the account an Administrative account, then put in the password, then take away the admin rights.
Something else to try: Make sure you're entering the WPA key, and not using the WPS button on the front of the Thomson.

1237296 2011-10-13 23:32:00 Thanks Chill

Instigating and removing the administrator didn't work, but entering the WPA key did !! All good.
