1210327 2011-06-18 10:23:00 Not sure if anyone's seen this before, but having the need to clear out my PM box, I wanted to backup and keep a record of my PMs for reference.

You can download the lot as an XML, CSV or TXT file from PressF1, but no (good) way to read them.

I found this: www.softpedia.com which loads the XML file and saves it into a database.

With support for tags etc things look almost like they are supposed to on the forum.

PS: Why do we only get storage for 100 messages ? Seems a bit on the stingy side...

1210329 2011-06-18 12:38:00 I guess with 16529 users registered, and if they all used the PM facility, that could add up to some fairly serious disk usage if the limit was set too high...

The limit was raised to 100 not so long ago...

A popular man I see.

:pf1mobmini:The disk usage is stuff-all; it's essentially one *small* row in the PM table per PM, and it's all text content.

Text doesn't use much space, and storing more PMs won't affect performance either - VB can quite happily manage many millions of PMs in the system without breaking a sweat.

1210333 2011-06-19 06:18:00 I'll see what FFBM say about upping the limit ... Chilling_Silence (9)

1210335 2011-06-19 06:31:00 It doesn't really matter I guess... except for convenience

Most PMs become irrelevant quickly, the only reason I want to keep them is for reference (which that program I linked to does quite well)
