2011-10-17 04:46:00 | I have worked in a corporate environment with Endpoint and while I normally don't like Symantec AV products I have to give credit where it's due. I did a pretty good job most of the time, was easy to configure centrally and easy to get a one look glance at how machines we looking over the network. That said though it did tend to have an impact on the users when the weekly pre-set scan kicked in. Currently our Environment uses Nod32 Nusiness Edition as we are a reseller and I have the centralised console running more for that quick overview of which machines have missed their scans, aren't updating or heaven forbid infected. We have some Forefront licences at work as well but I haven't gotten around to actually looking at this product.

2011-10-17 05:13:00 | I used to do some jobs for a local nationwide company where the IT department was based in Auckland. They used Nod32 and had an issue where a virus was on the network and they were having major issues removing it. It would be removed and then re appear days later. It was always located on the same network server and location but kept coming back. It had no impact on users though besides alerting everyone that it existed. I had no involvement in the removal and not sure how they got on top of it but I was aware that Nod32 tech support were assisting. No product is 100%

2011-10-17 05:24:00 | We are currently using SEP 12.06. We have 1 centralized management console where all updates/clients are administered from. I was never a fan or Norton/Symantec products but SEP has proved to be very effective. We've had a few instances of false positives but no more than any other product out there. I think the main thing with SEP is that if you set it up correctly in the 1st place you are unlikely to have serious problems especially if you have it working along side other hardware based intrusion protection systems such as TippingPoint and/or Checkpoint firewall for instance. Cheers,

2011-10-18 05:53:00 | I look after some small schools running Symantec Endpoint & found It is better than most consumer products & way better than Etrust, but still not as good as Eset Anti-Virus. I always had no end of trouble with Etrust not updating or not detecting infections & when they switched to Symantec I only found the occasional performance issue. Like southern_jas, I am an Eset reseller & have my business customers' Eset Remote Admin servers replicate back to my ERA server (very useful) and sell the same product (but without monitoring) to home users. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Eset Anti-virus is the only product that works just as well on unmanaged home PCs as it does on corporate networks.

2011-10-18 12:08:00 | There was a discussion on antivirus the other day, the guy insisted Endpoint was the best AV, not Nortons, but Endpoint. It says "Nortons" and it's under the Nortons brand, so it's gotta suck badly. If it's anything like what they installed at school, then it's gonna suck badly (it was some really slow windows 98 looking Nortons)

2011-10-18 12:29:00 | I've seen endpoint used on machines, most of the time it complained the definitions were out of date. When I tried to update them, it told me I had no permission to do so. Seemed pretty pathetic to me!

2011-10-18 12:46:00 | Maybe just mis-configured in that particular situation though. | Agent_24 (57) | |
2011-10-18 21:52:00 | It's locked down so you can't mess with it. Definitions are downloaded to the management server then distributed from there, rather than download the same definitions from the internet X amount of times. It's not sold under the Norton brand at all.
