1210266 2011-06-18 10:11:00 I usually store the boxes away in a spare room in case I need them in the future. When the spare room starts to get full I then flatten them and take them to the local recycle place. Bobh (5192)
1210267 2011-06-18 10:14:00 I keep them for resale, warranty returns\repair or storage of the purchased item, or storage of other items.

However most of the stuff I buy is 2nd hand anyway (much cheaper that way, the monitor I am using currently cost $1 :D - and no it's not a 13" CRT that looks like a fishbowl either) so I don't generally have the original boxes.

If you recycle the boxes I would advise people flatten\cut them up in such a way so they do not proudly display your purchase of an expensive item on the roadside which basically says "I have some stuff worth stealing"

Good sound reason for taking the boxes to the recycling place yourself.

1210270 2011-06-18 10:42:00 I keep some for Trade Me sales, but considering I haven't listed much these days I've thrown them out for the recycle truck. rob_on_guitar (4196)

1210272 2011-06-18 21:52:00 I keep them for at least a year, in case I need to send anything back for a warranty claim.

A year? The warranty is longer than that.

When I had the shop I kept some, but now - I just have the monitor box and one case box.

Some items have 1 year warranties. Some have 3 year warranties - hence the phrase "at least" in my original post.

1210274 2011-06-18 23:17:00 Put them all under the house, then bring them out on Xmas Day. Next day is their birthday, so they get seriously crushed. The infernal foam gets cut up into slices and put in a large plastic bag. When the bag is 75 % full, a cupful of petrol is added , the bag is taped shut and left in a shady spot for a couple of days. The foam rubbish turns to goo and the bag can hold heaps more plastic again. Smokers may well take care of the disposal problem - but if not, at least it is a small piece of rubbish to throw out. 1210275 2011-06-18 23:38:00 I keep them all in the garage. This is not approved of by SWMBO, and is the subject of mirth and a significant amount of joshing from the fruit of our loins - "Dad's box collection - hoho!'. Generally regarded as one of my eccentricities like having a beard.

I notice that when I pension off a monitor or a DVD Writer to one of said fruit, and it arrives in the original packaging, the cheek stops. Generally it changes to 'wow, thanks Dad'. I have also had a gratifyingly positive reaction from TradeMe buyers. A small sense of satisfaction ensues.
