I would too if I was married to her...

The "head clergy" are now saying "GO WEST" and they will move the Cathedral to the centre of it.

The word dismantle keeps springing to mind.

There was more than a hint in the Bishop's statement that they are also thinking of a new Cathedral, rather than rebuilding the present one. She made some comments about the present Cathedral being right for the 19C, but not necessarily for the 21st.

That will be an interesting battle to watch if that thinking is pursued. In the red corner we have the Bishop, who is a woman, and a Canadian; in the blue corner, we have the conservative Anglican First Four Ships establishment! I may be cynical, but I am not sure the establishment will be terribly willing to listen to an in-comer (a woman to boot), even if she is dressed in purple and wearing a funny hat!

1210165 2011-06-19 06:42:00 Interesting set up. The Dean, Peter Beck, is a very liberal clergyman as well. There's a lot of unconservative thinkers there in opposition. WalOne (4202)
1210166 2011-06-19 06:46:00 That is true. I know nothing about the Bishop, except what I saw of her in the memorial service. Peter Beck on the other hand I knew of and met when I lived in Auckland, and I knew and worked with some of his friends and supporters. All are agreed he is a good man, and definitely not a stick in the mud.

His behaviour and what he said after the quakes were quite inspirational, even for non-god-botherers like me.

The only thing is, ChCh does have a tendency to close ranks against 'outsiders', especially those who went to the wrong school.
