2011-06-21 07:57:00 | Managed to fail my titration internal over something very small (for 2x weeks I have been doing the "ammount added" under burette readings wrong :p) For the titrations I got my readings within excellence. My calculations were a bit off bringing the total down to merit :yuck: but failed overall because of a handy brain freeze that made me think that taking the ammount of acid titrated from 50 (the amount the burettes hold) was the answer... its actually the same as the final reading. If you take 13.3 ml out you can only put 13.3 ml in to make it 0.00 again. And that burette readings aren't even listed in the marking schedule!! its assumed that students know it! arg!!! Not happy with my self At ALL!!! Feeling like a prime retard :groan: Anyone else have a catastrophic fail in NCEA? (or school cert?)

2011-06-21 08:57:00 | I didn't do chem but I had a two classes of people full of fails and resits because of titrations. Many, many tears were shed. As for me, I passed level 1 with 91 credits that I got from a couple of german papers, which I did on year 9/10 knowledge having learned NOTHING in year 11 thanks to having a teacher for 6 people, then not having a teacher, then not having help with correspondence, and then being told 'here's your exam, good luck'. If it wasn't for those two papers, I would have failed level 1. Yay. I also failed maths every year I attempted it, and also last semester at uni in my comp sci degree. I have it next semester again, not looking forward to it. But yeah, hated NCEA.

2011-06-21 11:14:00 | Titration and buretting - words I'd been very happy to have forgotten. You've now brought back memories of trying to burette some cyanide based solution at uni. They provided rubber bulbs with valves to safely draw the lethal solution into the burettes. Sadly however, the sealing surfaces within these rubber bulbs were totally fubar'd and out of frustration I ended up drawing the volume in the traditional high school method - by using my mouth to suck it up. I now shudder at the thought I could have killed myself. I should have told them where to stick their crappy bulbs and taken a fail on that particular lab. There's not much at all in chemistry that could be considered easy, so everyone before you has goofed in one way or another, including those who are marking your exam.

2011-06-21 11:54:00 | :p <gloat> Chemistry used to be my forte. Got Excellence in Chemistry titration in Forms 6 and 7. Straight A+ in all CHEM papers at Uni. </gloat> My only "epic fail" (more like a decision rather than an outcome) was to study Year 13 English. Epic_wrong_choice. It did not give me a single E credit. Good luck for your next internal (Is it redox?) Cheers :)

2011-06-21 21:09:00 | Done redox (Merit) I must say. Its not usual for me to fail an exam completely. Especially not an internal. as my Chem teacher said, its a sad but REALLY tough lesson to learn. At the moment i'm absolutely hating NCEA and the subject endorsement, last year we did a few LVL 2 papers for Maths in order to fit everything in this year. Now I have to resit them in order to get a subject endorsement since you have to get at least 4 credits in a single internal that must be completed in the same year or something like that. Anyway, I don't have the time to study for and resit 2x maths papers this year so its impossible for anything other than Maths A. Also, I passed with slightly better grades in english than a mate but she voided 2-3x english papers in the externals whereas I attempted and failed them :D the result was that I didn't get into top english this year. The difference between attempting and failing or not even attempting is quite large it seems. Still more fun next internal! Best lulz last year was 24 Excellence credits in art. Ended up with Lvl 1 Merit
