1239232 2011-10-22 22:13:00 I need to buy a scanner . I have an old Brother all in one printer/scanner/etc however it is getting on a bit and has such does not work with Win7 .

So I have been looking at a few on dse . co . nz and just want a cheap option really say around $100 .

I have a b/w laser printer which has been fantastic . So having a colour printer would be nice, but I would print on it only very rarely . However it has feature of printing direct to CD/DVD, wireless/network I may spend a little more .

What I need:

Scanner .

What I would like if possible:

Wireless/network printing
Cheap ink
automatic scanner/copy paper feed
CD/DVD label printing (printing direct to the CD/DVD)

I have found three so far:

Epson NX125 $99
Canon MP280 $99
Brother DCPJ125 $99

Has PCworld done any reviews lately (could not find any)?

What are you experiences with these 'multifunction' printers?

1239233 2011-10-22 22:18:00 Not that useful but ... I have a A3 inkjet printer for my photography, the ink is not cheap. Hence for all our print stuff we use our Canon b/w laser scanner unit. I find that the text is more crisper too on the laser. Nomad (952)

1239235 2011-10-22 22:34:00 Thanks tried to edit post but took too long and it wont let me.

But main reason is that my employer requires me to FAX my timesheets each week. I know I know, who still uses faxes!! Well quite a few business it seems!

I dont have a phone line and refuse to pay for one when I can get VOIP!

I have had to walk up to the local library to fax my timesheets each week - at $2.50 a page ! For what is essentially a free local call! (I tried sending my employer the bill for faxing at library but that just pissed them off)

I can email them but they are handwritten so must be scanned first before being emailed.

scanner is essential
Printer - be good if the ink is cheap
Network cable port or wireless

Yes, thanks that does appear to be a good option. However the price is a little high - If I can find one similar for a bit cheaper otherwise I can justify the price of the Brother model being wireless and get it.

Same item GJ suggested at Accent

www.ascent.co.nz

Also you can get a $30 cashback while their promotion is running.

Not that I'm recommending it as "decent" as I dont consider you can get a "decent" multifunction for around $100 but you can get an "ok" one that will do the job.
Good luck

1239239 2011-10-23 01:49:00 What about just using your digital camera into a JPEG?

I know that in some pro photo places, they now use a high reso digital camera to take digital copies of art prints etc ... because it provides a better result than many flatbed scanners, note that you can get real pro flatbeds into the 5 digital pricetag ;) Use a lens setting around 50mm to minimise distortion, and they tend to use a copy stand like the days in the chemistry labs pointing the lens down.

You could just improvise by standing up enough like off a chair with the paper on the coffee table perhaps  Enough lighting of course, like daylight.

Yep a lot of companies use fax still, it is a trusted channel, many places don't accept formal correspondence via email. They prefer snail mail even.

1239240 2011-10-24 04:02:00 Ended up getting a HP for only $79 with wireless.

Sorted, just plugged in the power cord and it just asked for my password for network and it was ready!

Thanks for all your help!
