| 1212307 | 2011-06-27 00:55:00 | To a user/visitor no real difference - but to the engines (mainly Google) a difference - as it sees duplication - then it has to assign which sub-domain to rank and display from search queries. No big deal to a forum -but important for large shopping/business/affiliate content sites to assign canonical url's. (googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com) to indicate the one url that Google should spider/display, without duplication penalties and page rank leak from similar sub-domain urls names (i..e. http//domain vs http//www.domain, etc). If you Google press F1 get another url: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz This has lower page rank than any of the other urls. Webmasters might also use Google robot txt (www.google.com) to indicate to Google not to display certain similar url's. |
