1211790 2011-06-26 03:42:00 Husband won't use anything except rechargeables. But. He also is picky about this:

Battery Capacity Type: 800 mAh Minimum: 750 mAh

He wouldn't buy them, got to be at least 1000. And they do seem to last a lot better than the crappy ones I had.

Its a strange name.

I will go to see Mrs Smith 2 morrow

You probably haven't heard of them because Sanyo in NZ must have the most inept marketing that you could image. Even now I see that some of the DSE range is marked "Clearance product, stock is limited."

There are alternatives like ecobatteries.co.nz

1211792 2011-06-26 07:42:00 My NZ rechargies been pretty good, Energizers, GP ... got some Sanyo overseas with the trend some yrs ago .. they suck, not sure if dodgy seller or what. Now they barely last a week just sitting. My GPS goes thru them in like 2 or 3hr.

Get in NZ so you get warranty or swaps.

1211793 2011-06-26 09:09:00 I suspect most batteries have their knock off clones

Have some GP AA's that I have had for 7/8 years that also was in a second hand camera and have outlived two sets of other makes of NIMH and are still going strong

But have also a set of Eneloops in a camera that demanded higher power which I will buy again from a reliable source when replacing other sets

1211794 2011-06-26 21:07:00 There's batteries, and then there's batteries.

I was helping out at a conference A/V desk and spotted the techs there had some packs of AA's marked in big letters "not for trade" or something along those lines.

Basically these were a higher grade of battery than we poor Joe Average folks get to buy in the shops.

Seems if you have the right contacts you can get the good stuff. The rest of us get the cheap commercial dross.

You are onto it Paul. There are dry cells made by regular manufactures that are not available to Joe Public and which last infinitely longer. I used to get them courtesy of a Fireman friend. ;)

He told me they were only available to the Emergency Services, so if you want to use dry cells, make friends with a Policeman or Fireman. :D

I've bought quite a few of his Camelion brand el-cheapo rechargeables. Been really happy with them and now never use non-rechargeables.

Funny you should say that .
I was just thinking the other day that you hardly ever hear of Sanyo these days .
Yet in the 70's and 80's they were a big player in audio gear .

Re marketing of batteries

Those Panasonic battery ads that you see on tv must be a waste of money because I never see them in any shops .

Foodtown, Countdown and Woolies have them.

They are also crap. I had generic ones from Tricky Dickies and they lasted longer in a battery powered MP3 player.

More likely bulk pack batteries are just like 24 pack Coke cans, not supposed to be retailed individually. If any battery maker had a great product they'd be blister packing them and selling as many as they could.

AV users probably use new cells before each event and life span isn't that critical.

Do you really believe that?
