1238765 2011-10-21 10:27:00 Unless you need a bigger screen or specialized windows only software, why not go with the transformer? It can do pretty much everything except print & play windows games. Greven (91)
1238766 2011-10-21 11:23:00 Yeah .. that is pretty cool.
If you print, or need software like MS Office and/or Adobe Photoshop (or Elements) if you are into photography / videography you might need a laptop but if not ...

1238767 2011-10-21 19:47:00 You can still edit documents and the likes quite happily on the Transformer, Nomad. Try one first, then offer advice about it ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
1238768 2011-10-21 21:05:00 I may have a look at the toaster shops one day :)

For casual use it might be ok, even on a desktop PC I have tried Open Office, just prefer MS Office personally. Ditto with Adobe products vs the alternatives. They're industry standard.

1238769 2011-10-22 08:52:00 True, but if you REQUIRE that, then there's no way you could get away with anything *but* a Windows laptop. For the better part, most people don't take advantage of the advanced functionality and just need basic word processing.

IF you need more, that's fine, then a tablet isn't for you.
If you can get away with that, then super, give it a try!

1238770 2011-11-27 10:24:00 OK, I'm back from holiday and having moved up to Auckland, am back on the hunt for some computing goodness. Thanks for all the suggestions so far but I have gone of the idea of a tablet as I don't have a major portability requirement. I just want something for my desk for the 3 months that I'm up here without having to worry about transporting or selling a desktop PC. It will also be useful for my Masters course next year.

I would really appreciate any recommendations for a good value Asus, Toshiba or HP under $1200 so that I can hopefully pick one up this week and stop having to read email on the phone! Thanks in advance.

1238771 2011-11-28 21:22:00 This deal ends today and looks good to me but would appreciate if someone could have a look www.noelleeming.co.nz JMoore (9352)
1238772 2011-11-28 21:26:00 You can get faster ones with more RAM from pbtech.co.nz, for less :) Chilling_Silence (9)
1238773 2011-11-28 21:42:00 Thanks for the feedback. So would you recommend this model pbtech.co.nz over the Noel Leeming one? JMoore (9352)
