| 1238499 | 2011-10-19 02:40:00 | Hi Guys I have Avira Anti Virus v 9 as does a friend of mine. Hers is now reporting that Online protection is disabled" On looking at the Avira website it looks like this is because we unintstalled the Toolbar they wanted to install with a new version of Avira. They say it is to give us "extra service" of course the real reason is to get revenue for them. I suppose it means we still can use their scanner, but we have no line protection. Does anyone else have this problem yet ? I see they now have a version called 2012. Is there a work around. We would like to stick with Avira, but don't like any toolbars getting in our way. |

| 1238502 | 2011-10-19 21:27:00 | Unfortunately, you can't have the web scanner running without the toolbar. I'd suggest disabling it and if necessary, uninstall that part. The anti-virus will still run fine. I haven't tried the 2012 version yet, but understand not much has changed - you still need to have the toolbar installed in order for the online protection. Shame really, Avira is a good product (for the most part). I'm running XP and have never had a problem with updating MSSE ... did so after reading your comments just to make sure. Maybe you should get a legit copy of XP or try validating again. Avast isn't as good as it used to be either ... I think you'll find most on the forum will agree that MSSE is the best of the free ... NOD32 best of the paid for. |

Got two customers computers here - one had Avast - obvious problems, ran a Nod32 scan CD through it, and instantly located and removed 6 Trojans -- the other one , infections had killed Avira to the point of not even running or being able to open. |
