1213353 2011-06-29 12:16:00 TEPCO: Will Someone Turn Off the Lights?

TEPCO “discovered” that not only had a meltdown occurred, but also a “melt-through” (fuel rods had melted and also breached the containment vessel).

1213355 2011-06-29 20:45:00 Well the point is there is absolutely no need to have them in New Zealand.

We are blessed with the ability to generate as much Hydro Power as we will ever need.

Some new Hydro Stations will be required, but look at the asset their lakes are for recreational purposes.

I really can’t understand why anyone would bother with ugly noisy wind farms or any alternative form of generation.

Oh well, shortly my electricity will be generated by coal. :D

Come on global warming.

1213357 2011-06-29 21:31:00 The problem is BM that when ever the though of building any new power generation in NZ the NIMBYs and BANAS, Maoris and greens all jump and down saying you can't do this. They say we must conserve power and their means of conserving power is via raising the prices via taxes.. paulw (1826)

True Paul and they should be ignored and treated with the contempt they so richly deserve.

A major problem in this country is that the tail is allowed to wag the dog.

1213359 2011-06-29 23:28:00 Everytime i drive to Palmerston or Wellington i find the wind farms fascinating, almost a beautiful sight. Nothing wrong with them. Good luck getting a hydro dam installed these days. Would be easier to get a nuclear one installed now. Gobe1 (6290)

You forgot to add the end bit: "Japan's Atomic Energy Agency says radioactive caesium leaking from the Fukushima nuclear plant will spread 4,000 kilometres through the Pacific Ocean in the next year and reach Hawaii in three years." ??? isnt Hawaii closer than us???? And what concentrations?? Relax

Took my kids up to the viewpoint near Palmy, you can stand directly under the blades as it spins.

well worth the effort.
