Seems a good idea get rid of people who have had time to save up for a house.

Maybe use those funds/resources to help those in actual need.

1213030 2011-06-29 00:02:00 There are 69,000 state houses.

Hang on a second... 69,000???!

If average household size is around 3 (although I would suspect it to be greater), that's over 200,000 people in HousingNZ...

Does anyone know how many houses there actually are in NZ in total?

1213032 2011-06-29 01:14:00 And there are all the anecdotal stories of people in the wrong sized house.

Eg one person in a 3 bedroom house.

So just over 4% of all houses in NZ are HousingNZ owned/operated. That's not too bad, I guess.

You can always sublet? :D

1213035 2011-06-29 01:49:00 Remember we used to be a Socialist society until we started listening to the ridiculous Americans and their right wing cronies in England with their hand puppet zeolots here in NZ, Roger f...ing Douglas and Richard f...ing Prebble, and destroyed all the work put in here to make an equitable society only to find out now, 30 years hence, that the right wing arch-capitalists didn't know what they were talking about judging from the state of the world economy today. zqwerty (97)
1213036 2011-06-29 02:01:00 Surely the reason for State owned housing is so that less well off (poor) people can have a roof over their head. Once a person's financial position improves they should be made to move into private sector housing. This will allow another poor person to have a State house. Bobh (5192)
1213037 2011-06-29 04:00:00 Seems amazing to me that they don't know the circumstances of the people living in state housing. They wouldn't even know if some owned properties themselves. mikebartnz (21)
