| 1212684 | 2011-06-28 03:24:00 | So may I assume you have no interest in changing the system that we currently use? And can you suggest a better system? 1. It's not that I've no interest in changing the current system but it's just beyond my capability (& ability) to make any changes! 2. No. I'm not a politician, and admittedly, not capable of suggesting any better system. Even if I can suggest something, what's the point, who will listen to me? Who am I? LOL 3. Hoping to see a good leader will emerge in the near future - May God Bless NZ! |

| 1212685 | 2011-06-28 03:27:00 | You try to talk like such a big man here. Here is another $2. What are you scared of? People who don't share your meek outlook taking back the power? The power that by rights belongs to the people, not to the system in order to support those at the helm. All systems must fail, Globally this one has run its course. The great white experiment has been a dismal failure. |

You don't have to be a Pollie to make suggestions if you actually have a viable alternative. 3. Start a party of your own and become leader. Don't forget to vote for yourself will you. :) |

| 1212687 | 2011-06-28 03:35:00 | Can you see them changing/removing MMP? Whichever system keeps the deadwood politicians in their cushy offices is the one that they (the politicians) will fight to protect. Bring back the First Past the Post option :) :) At least we had a few more "decent" politicians in the debating chamber under that system. MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT THIS YEAR. |

| 1212688 | 2011-06-28 03:40:00 | @Zippity. I don't know what the result of the referendum will be. I do know that whatever the result is that it's not binding and not over to the Politicians to decide the actual result. |

| 1212689 | 2011-06-28 03:52:00 | I would rather prefer a far right wing revolution like the Spanish civil war. Tie all liberals to posts on a beach and shoot them as they did in Ghana. Democracy not all good as you see the moaris just voted for a clown instead of exercising their vote properly. | prefect (6291) | ||

Democracy not all good as you see the moaris just voted for a clown instead of exercising their vote properly. Wrong. Most of the eligible voters did not vote at all. 59% did not vote as they were probably off cultivating their crops I guess. Work comes first! :) |

| 1212691 | 2011-06-28 05:57:00 | We also need to chuck this stupid voting system we have and go back to FPP . But how are you going to do that? The so called Referendum is just another cruel hoax to appease the peasants . Remember the Referendum where over 80% of the voters wanted to repeal the Anti-Smacking law? Over 80% wasnt enough for the Government so we still have it . Now, let's take a look at what will happens with respect to the Referendum in the upcoming election . (Taken from the Elections Orgs website HERE ( . elections . org . nz/elections/2011-referendum-on-the-voting-system . html" target="_blank">www . elections . org . nz) . ) What will happen as a result? If at least half the voters opt to keep MMP, there will be an independent review of MMP in 2012 to recommend changes that should be made to the way it works . The Electoral Commission will conduct the review . It must include a number of matters that have been decided by Parliament including the thresholds parties must meet to be eligible for a share of list seats, whether voters should be able to change the order of candidates on a party list and whether candidates can stand in both an electorate and on the party list . The size of Parliament and Maori representation will not be reviewed, but the Commission may consider any other aspects of the MMP voting system . If more than half the voters opt to change the voting system, Parliament will decide if there will be another Referendum in 2014 to choose between MMP and the alternative voting system that gets the most support in the second question in the 2011 Referendum . So you see if the majority vote to keep MMP there will be a review by the Electoral Commission who will no doubt make decisions at the Governments behest . And, if the majority want change, Parliament will decide . Might even have another Referendum in 2014 . So there you have it, you can vote in November on which form of Cancer you prefer to die from, and at the same time cast your vote on a non-event . If Politicians know anything, they know that Procrastination is the Deadliest form of Denial . ;) |
