| 1212543 | 2011-06-28 03:21:00 | For older houses it's best to use a dehuminifier or HRV to keep the house dry, because dampness and humidity gives the illusion of the air being colder than it is. Also a dry house is faster, easier and more efficient by far to keep warm, and heat pumps are excellent IF the house is dry :pf1mobmini: |

A HP doesn't dehumidify and heat at the same time and in dehumidify mode they generally only work if the temp is above 16C. The thing I don't like about HRV systems is that they are way over priced for what they do and will only heat the house when the sun is shining and so making the attic area warmer than the inside of the house. I will not deny they do decrease the condensation within a house. |

No. They only actively dehumidify the air during periods when the indoor unit is being chilled. So the drying effect is strongest in summer, and weakest in winter. If you want to run a dehumidifying function in winter then you're going to have to either run the temperature in the room way down, or do a very energy inefficient process of cycling the unit between hot and cold. Grabbing moisture during the cold bursts, and heating the room during the warm bursts. Heating the room only has the effect of driving any moisture off the cold surfaces (windows) into the air as moisture. If the unit is creating a positive pressure (ie bringing in colder outside air which is generally less humid) it will slowly drive out this warmer moist air, but this process will only occur if there's a feed of cool (and dry) air from outside the room(s) being actively driven into the room. |

| 1212548 | 2011-06-28 21:02:00 | My HP is set at 22 and slowest fan speed. If the atmosphere seems cold, a 5-10 minute burst on the second fan speed is all that is needed to warm the room. | Bryan (147) | ||
| 1212549 | 2011-06-29 00:57:00 | The Mitsubishi HeatPump I am using at the moment definitely dehumidifies the room it is in, at the moment the inside temp is 18degC 53% humidity, outside it is 6.4degC 89% humidity. When I come into the room after a few hours away the inside and outside temperatures and humidity will be the same but within 15 minutes of the heat pump being on the humidity will drop to about 64% and the temperature increases to whatever I set, within reason. |
