The en rule (–) is longer than a hyphen (-).
I had copied some code from the internet and for the life of me I couldn't work out why it wasn't compiling properly. I had gone over the code numerous times and even had someone else look at it with no joy and finally discovered a hyphen had been replaced with the en dash.
Word can be a bugger for doing that.
