2011-06-29 22:08:00 | Can you get caught using sites such as Fileserve, Hotfile and Rapidshare? What about Frostwire (not that I use it anyway!) and obviously torrents are easy game for copyright holders so I won't be using them anymore :D | xyz823 (13649) | |

What about Frostwire (not that I use it anyway!) and obviously torrents are easy game for copyright holders so I won't be using them anymore :D Rapidshare offers secure connections, so it's too much effort for them to catch you. Frostwire is P2P so it's not all that different from torrents, and it will be easy to catch you. I wouldn't be surprised if copyright holders themselves initially upload material (by proxy obviously) and then go after everyone who downloads it. |

2011-06-29 22:42:00 | People are just going to get really creative and disguise big bad files as really weeny "legitimate" ones e.g. PNG picture files with Sione's Wedding stored in little pieces in the metadata, etc. Enforcing it is going to be a nightmare, and I believe it's virtually akin to tobacco companies talking with politicians to get a law passed that bans smoke-free zones! What's this thing called democracy, anyway? | mookster1 (15854) | |
2011-06-30 00:43:00 | It's not so much about getting caught because it's "secure", but more that its server-to-client. P2P is *insanely* easy to catch you doing by comparison to downloading directly from a server via http / ftp etc. There are so many other countries that don't have these kinds of laws, they're not going to bother. They're basically gonna hit the likes of the Gnutella Network etc, and popular torrent sites like TPB & mininova as they always have. It's just that now, they can do you over a lot easier than just sending you a letter going "Oi you cheeky bugger, we caught you doing something you shouldn't, don't do that again".

2011-06-30 22:06:00 | OK so I found it, but it's on a private forum. Long story short: Don't waste your time with peer blockers if you're using torrents. Torrents are inherently built to prevent 'poisoning' etc, but that's not the issue. The issue is that another leecher (The MPAA / RIAA etc) can see you, and peer blockers don't prevent that. Only way around it: Use server-to-client stuff, which is harder to track because they've gotta get access to the server logs of wherever you've been getting your materials from. It's not impossible, just harder. Checking torrents on the other hand is pretty much no-cost to the copyright holder, and it's relatively instant too.

2011-07-01 00:12:00 | How can we afford to actually enforce this? Not that it really matters what money I spend anywhere since I am employed by the Govt, therefore all my income comes from tax and doesn't actually benefit the economy.

2011-07-01 00:32:00 | Wrong error guy, unless you send your money to Fiji or somewhere your income gets spent in nz and that money pays other peoples tax etc etc, its the money circle of life :) Back to topic, how can we afford to enforce this? increase everyone's internet bill each month. If its going to cost the IP's then it will cost the users. sucks to be us

2011-07-01 02:53:00 | Most internet service providers I've spoken with are saying "There's no way we can implement that in time", which could well be codewords for "Screw you, we ain't gonna bother because we all disagree with the implementation of the law and told you not to do it", but I could be wrong ;) | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
