1240115 2011-10-26 17:15:00 What are the current recommended Antivirus apps as used by the experienced members of this forum?

Non-free ?
Free ?

Anyone who suggests Norton/Symantec will be reported and taken out the back to be quartered :p

1240116 2011-10-26 18:08:00 Well, I use two right now. I use Norton Internet Security on one system, and because it's been gaining/overtaking Norton in detection scores I use Bitdefender on the other.

...and you can try quartering me, but I suspect you won't get very far. :-P

(I use Norton not least because it's our recommended software, and I believe in running that to ensure that it isn't a killer of system resources, etc. If I think my readers should use it, I eat the dogfood.)

And Avira was my free software of choice, but to be honest, it nags way too much for my liking.

1240118 2011-10-26 19:42:00 Free - Avira - I'll put up with a bit of nagging for free. Digby (677)

MSE for Free
NOD32 for Paid
Though I did like Avira, it did relatively well in detecting things in my own little 'sandbox' setup I tried, it just used a little bit too much of the system resources. Same for MSE, it'd kick off a scan in the middle of my gaming when I had it on my main desktop. I've forked out for NOD32 and the new version 5 is even better than ever!!

1240120 2011-10-26 20:15:00 As others say, MSE. Get it here: www.microsoft.com

Egad, stay away from  Nortons! :badpc:

NOD32 is the best, but costs.
