1241312 2011-11-01 19:55:00 Hey Team

Just 2 quick questions. :)

1) Does anyone know of a web designers forum in New Zealand? If not I am keen to start one, would anyone join?

2) Can anyone recommend a good NZ host company that does Windows hosting? And not too expensive. Learning web design in school and learning asp.net so can't use linux anymore. :D.

Thanks! :D

1241313 2011-11-01 21:14:00 ASP? What's ASP? ;-)

There's the PHP User Group? That's close, and it's a *real* language ;)

I seem to remember OpenHost do windows (I think...), and they've been spoken well of by the members here on a couple of occasions.

PHP Breaks way too easy, and it's ugly when it breaks. :P. But no I agree. I prefer PHP but the class didn't offer it. :D

In regards to the PHP user group, I want to have a website/forum for all types of web design like codingforums.com, except for Kiwi designers. :)

Thanks guys. everyone seems to be suggesting openhost so I'll give them a go. :)

1241316 2011-11-01 23:33:00 If you're setting up a forum, you could try MyBB (it's open source (= free) but it needs a Linux host).... johcar (6283)

There use to be two or three NZ Web Design / Web Development forums, but it looks like they have all gone off-line, and if you do start one, then yes I would join :)

Have a look at Web Drive: www.webdrive.co.nz they do Windows hosting with asp.net.

or you could try phpBB (www.phpbb.com/), SMF (http:) (Simple Machines Forum), All Free & all need a Linux host.

1241319 2011-11-02 00:33:00 You could always develop your own ASP.net based message-board aswell.

I was self-(google)-taught PHP, one of the first things I did was make a blog that allowed comments, which then turned into a blog for multiple users, and eventually turned into a messageboard-like system. It was fun.

1241320 2011-11-02 01:13:00 The only down side with DIY is all the "gotchas" you've gotta be aware of, but yes I like DIY :D

That said, it's nice and quick n easy to get up and running with something like phpBB (REALLY quick!), if you're wanting to develop a community then perhaps having software that's not quite finished may not be the best solution? ;)
