1214785 2011-07-04 16:12:00 There's a guy who is in prison and has had his sister (she's outside - he's inside) file a lawsuit for the stigma attached to the term 'inmate' on her brother.

She says it is affecting him mentally and spiritually, and is seeking to have the moniker removed for her brother and all er, inmates really.

The Superior Court of that state wherein he is an inmate (until further notice of a change of title) has said it will listen to the complaint.

Go figger. Shame for the US penal system to ever stigmatize an inmate.

I just caught this as a blurb on the radio, as it hasn't hit the internet yet that i can find.

1214786 2011-07-04 19:53:00 Well, I'm all in favour of a name change.

Lets call them all scumbag criminals and say it like it is.

1214788 2011-07-04 23:41:00 The poor man. He is most likely in prison because that is where he deserves to be. I cannot see why the use of the word inmate should worry him. I looked up the definition of the word inmate in wordweb. One of the definitions is, 'A person serving a sentence in a jail or prison'. Bobh (5192)

1214792 2011-07-05 01:54:00 I heard a talk by somebody from our probation service the other day and he says they make a point of calling those concerned "prisoners" and not "clients". It was a refreshing breath of sanity in the quagmire of PC BS terminology that curses NZ society in these times! :banana tuiruru (12277)

Try throwing the word "niggardly" into conversation .
It will have the PC brigade wailing and wringing of hands, because it sounds like a word that "might" be derogatory .
I love using it, just to torment the do-gooders .
