1214886 2011-07-07 23:23:00 You guys make think it odd - but New Zealand's Independence Day, which is one day after your NZ Daylight Saving's Day Festival and the day before Fête de lacommunda utz francoisê is annotated on our wall calendar .

We is really internationalists by choice, although we tend to not celebrate them . Drinking (moderately) and eating excessive amounts of BBQ'd dead animals is a year-round occupation for me, and since I'm on 24/7/365/∞ vacation, it's just another day in a long holiday for me anyway . .

Maybe only I would notice that - but I like youse guys and watch with earnest (who's he?) at things NZ-ish .

But thanks for the accolades - I watched the fireworks from the Pachanga Indian Bingo & Gaming Hall from my house for a few minutes .

In retrospect though - the day has just become an aerial display to watch as one is lying on the ground, drunk for excessive drinking and eating on just another day off with an excuse .

It DOES mark the 'official' entry into the nation's vacation time with schools out for the summer and vacations .

1214887 2011-07-08 00:11:00 I remember watching a World War II Prisoner of War movie on DVD. There were both British and American prisoners in the camp. On 4th July the Americans staged a 4th July Independence Day parade. They had made a home brew and the British were invited to partake in the celebrations. The British prisoners accepted the invitation in good spirit.

The Great Escape (www.imdb.com) perhaps?

Good movie, not entirely factually correct, I have read the book by Paul Brickhill several times - but its still a good watch if anyone hasn't seen it.

Another good watch along similar lines: Stalag 17 (www.imdb.com).

Both are older movies, but don't let the dates put you off - fantastic movies.

1214888 2011-07-08 00:14:00 Glad you didn't mention The Bridge On The River Kwai - that's wasn't very factual either.

OTOH - I am positively positive that The Teahouse Of The August Moon was 100% factual as was Air America.

Positively positive am I.
