1241144 2011-10-31 22:45:00 Hi sorry for the lack of details but just had a call from my daughter who said her laptop was playing up with the pointer going everwhere, right click seeming to be stuck ..... admit till I see it, it is a bit hard to explain. Anyway one of the error messages she managed to take down was this:-

Sony Vaio VPCSB16FG
Model PCG-41213W

One Windows PC problem error I managed to take down:

Video Hardware Error
WD - 20111030 - 1421.dmp
sysdata.xm1
WERInternalMetadata.xml

The other messages seemed to be variations of that second line of letters/numbers.

she has had the laptop crash a couple of times mainly involving video and brief messages indicated video driver problems, the laptop is still under warranty from PBtech but she is in the middle of exams and if there is a quick fix, a driver update, or even just a re-install then that would be simpler (or a roll-back)

Nothing strange installed and all seems to update from MS and Sony.

Sorry that this is all a bit vague but any input would be appreciated that I might try when I get home.

1241146 2011-10-31 23:09:00 Mouse is the touchpad . . . is the Sony website the best place to get the GPU driver? Erger (10062)

1241148 2011-11-01 07:13:00 Thanks for your help, I have updated everything and am using the laptop at the moment so we will see . The problem appears to be that random mouse clicks/taps manifest themselves even when you were not touching he machine (using the ALPs touchpad) so even while just sitting there waiting for the download to finish suddenly the right click menu would appear on the screen and then the left then right then crazy . . . anyway updated both video and ALPs drivers and there was a measure of control then it seemed to do it again and the tap/left click function would not work . So I uninstalled the device, let Windows find it and install it, (old driver) then used Vaio update to check and update to new driver which it has now down .

Seems to be working so fingers crossed for now, but if anyone has any ideas as to the why I would be keen to know .

1241149 2011-11-13 01:13:00 Just an update on this, the problem re-occured which is essentially the right click context menu just keeps coming up randomly and constantly and the left click acts like a right click or not at all so essentially the machine is unusable . (installing a mouse does not seem to help) .

Restored the machine using the hidden partition back to factory, all good, installed all the windows updates and Vaio updates all good, installed Office 2007, all good, installed more updates, all good, then installed more update BANG problem back . Tried system restore to last save, no good, tried 2 previous, no good . . . now just have to wait for Sony to open Monday .

A lot of hours wasted!!! Any ideas, is this a hardware issue or software conflict (which I cant work out why)

1241150 2011-11-13 02:32:00 Sounds possibly like a hardware problem (dodgy contacts on touchpad buttons?).
Try turning off or disabling the touchpad, then use a mouse.

Its less than 4 months old so anything like that should be a warantee issue, will get Sony to sort it now.

1241152 2011-11-14 02:43:00 My friend bought a Sony laptop and the hard drive died after 1-2 months. He didn't bother with warranty, used it as an excuse to get a bigger drive.

But you can't really do that here.

1241153 2011-11-14 03:06:00 With the mouse, try cleaning that touch pad. Sometimes if they get a bit dirty they can go haywire. The Error Guy (14052)
