| 1240611 | 2011-10-29 01:21:00 | At different sites I use both BitDefender and Norton Internet Security 2011. When installing software many installations ask one to turn off A-V software first. I last struck this recently when installing Western Digital's 'WDSmartWare.exe' back-up system. How to 'turn off'? Neither product's manual gives a clue. I tried turning off every option. But BitDefender has one that wouldn't stay turned off. Surely I don't have to Uninstall and later Re-Install?? Grateful for advice. |

| 1240615 | 2011-10-29 04:03:00 | I bought Norton because it got a very good review in the last PC World annual evaluations. (!) And because I find BitDefender's interface confusing or unhelpful - not sure which. |

Under Real Time Protection, in the Auto-Protect row, move the On/Off switch to the right to the Off position. You might need to scroll the window to see the option. In the Settings window, click Apply. In the Select the duration drop-down list, select how long you want to turn off Auto-Protect, and then click OK. ------------------------------- To turn on Auto-Protect temporarily In the Norton Internet Security main window, click Settings. Shouldn't need to turn off anything else. In Bitdefender, maybe this'll help www.ehow.com |

When will PCW (and others) stop shafting their readers by bending over and taking one for the Nortons dollars? It's a travesty that Nortons continues to get a positive rating, and frankly, leaves me questioning whether there's anything credible in the entire publication. |

| 1240619 | 2011-10-29 11:59:00 | Here's a novel idea. How about assisting the original poster with his query? Could it be that Nortons actually does work when tested by magazines (why would they lie, I would seriously doubt money is being paid for them to do so, that would be fraudulent and dishonest), and to the satisfaction of its users. I have used it at times (along with other AVs), I have found it works well enough for my purposes (especially the recent editions, 2010/2011, since they rewrote it to take less resources on your system (it really was quite hoggy before that)). If you really think PC World is being fraudulent, why don't you start legal proceedings, or is this just some anti-corporate ranting on your part? Besides, is it really a good idea to bad-mouth our benefactors? (End of rant). |
