| 1215107 | 2011-07-05 21:45:00 | I have seen some cake shops that sell birthday cakes with photographs on them and wondered how they do it. These photos are short lived and get eaten up during the celebration. The 'Happy Birthday' on the cake is more than likely done with a steady hand at present. 3D printing using plastic and metal is already widely used in industry to speed up design work. |

| 1215108 | 2011-07-05 22:05:00 | Yes at the moment anything printed in plastic is nowhere near as good as the real object that has been injection moulded, but it's been fun learning how to set one up, calibrate it and make some objects. It also gave me a good excuse to learn CAD so that I can create my own objects | gary67 (56) | ||

They use standard inkjet printers & edible ink to print on rice paper & stick it to the cake. The printheads don't last long. Not sure where they get the ink cartridges to fill with edible ink - I don't think they would reuse standard ink cartridges. |

| 1215114 | 2011-07-10 06:55:00 | Try this link here (picasaweb.google.com) the purple parts are for another printer the same as mine, the black parts are for a Prusa version which I have just sold. I'm making a set of red Prusa parts which have a buyer hopefully lined up. Then I will look at making another set as well. The clear box holds water. I have tidied up the printer now, clipped all the cables up and moved the electronics board so that it is not across the front anymore as it was in the way. If your thinking of making one let me know would be happy to offer advice and help |
