1214640 2011-07-04 07:37:00 This young man's car broke down so in frustration he smashed his car then burnt it out.

He will be attending the Queenstown Court next week.

Strange behaviour.

It appears that he may have been drunk and insurance would have been out of the question.

1214643 2011-07-04 08:09:00 I remember John Bonham (Led Zeps dead drummer) was reputedly cleaning his Rolls Royce outside a pub in Jersey I think from memory, when a punter mentioned that you don't normally see a Rolls owner cleaning their own car. This is said to have so incensed Bonham that he beat the car into submission completely trashing it. gary67 (56)

1214645 2011-07-04 09:37:00 A funny little true story from about 30Yrs ago when I was in Central Otago....

There was a hippie guy that was into market gardening and owned an old commer van. He was driving to Nelson one time and his van stopped dead on top of a hill before Nelson.

Police got reports of a van abandoned on top of a hill and on investigation found it had several bullet holes in it, they began an investigation concerned something violent had happened to the guy and his van.

Several days later, they found the guy safe and well in Nelson, after questioning the guys response was this:

He was driving his van to Nelson where it got to the top of this hill and stopped dead. He pushed it to a bit of a drive-in at the side of the road and got out his gun and shot it several times and then set off walking to Nelson.

When asked why he shot it, he replied, "he thought it was in pain and shot it to put it out of its misery".

-- It had actually ran out of oil, overheating on the hill and seizing the engine.

1214647 2011-07-04 23:00:00 There was a late night documentary on TV this week about hippies. Our Mayor (Tim Shadbolt) featured. Hippies rejected anything modern and used horses instead of tractors. Not sure about guns. I am sure that they would have used rabbits and other wild animals as part of their diet. Bobh (5192)
1214648 2011-07-04 23:26:00 Not many people in rural central otago dont have guns. I guess he didnt like peter rabbit sitting in his vege patch. I used to go past his place on the bike going to my favorite fishing spot, there were always rabbits running across the road there. I guess he was a modern hippie (for that time), as he also had a quite large self-driven rotary hoe. Iantech (16386)

Are you sure? I thought that was the Amish and Mennonites
