| 1242462 | 2011-11-08 10:27:00 | I have just purchased Quicken Personal Plus and have managed to install it without the shortcuts. I got the warning. Warning 1909. Could not create shortcut Quicken online backup.lnk. Verify that the destination folder exists and that you can access it. I went into the programme files and right clicked on QW.exe to send it to the desktop as a shortcut. I clicked on the shortcut and Quicken starts to launch then a dialogue box comes up telling me that Quicken Launcher has stopped working. I have had similar problems installing other programmes. |

| 1242463 | 2011-11-08 11:58:00 | Basically because of the way the installer is written, it sounds like it's trying to look for the variables that Windows used in pre-Vista editions ("Documents and Settings" vs "Users"). Which edition of Quicken have you purchased ? |

I have 2006 and 2010 as previous versions. During the install I was not asked to insert the previous version disks as proof. I had uninstalled the previous version before installing Quicken 2010. The Quicken directory remained with data files in it. I have been able to open the program by clicking on the shortcut I created or by right clicking to run as administrator. I get the same result. When I install other programs, Quicken included, I am constantly having to 'take ownership' of directories before the install will continue. |

| 1242468 | 2011-11-08 20:11:00 | The ownership problems are usually due to a drive being formatted under a different OS or on a different computer. You can take ownership of entire drives to fix this, google it or wait til some helpful person here tells us how (I don''t remember myself). It can muck up automated installs and generally be a nuisance. I move my media drives around a bit and have run into this once or twice. It never has effected my C: drive though,probaably because windows takes ownership during the install. Failing that, try to unistall and reinstall the software to get the shortcuts. |

(lifehacker.com) Though you may want to further research/read comments before trying it or search on the Microsoft Support page (http://support.microsoft.com/) for solutions. | 1242471 | 2011-11-09 00:22:00 | I did a search on the Microsoft site and found this page (support.microsoft.com). Looks like some other old coot with a name like 'installer' owned my C:/ drive. I changed ownership to me. I will soon see if this makes any difference. |
