1242389 2011-11-08 00:11:00 I have two desktop PCs, both running Win7 Home Premium. One has a gigabyte K8 Triton motherboard with 3g memory. The second is an Acer E946GZ motherboard with 2g memory.

If I was to up the memory to 4g on both, would there be a noticable difference to the operation of the systems?

1242390 2011-11-08 00:25:00 Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit windows? wratterus (105)
1242391 2011-11-08 00:30:00 On the Acer, yes, the jump from 2GB to 3GB seems to make the most difference in my experience. 4GB is good for gaming (But you'll need 64-bit to take advantage of it all).

Otherwise, there may be better ways to spend your money :)

1242392 2011-11-08 00:36:00 Both are on 32bit but both are capable of 64. Both are capable of dual channel which the Gigabyte is using, The Acer is on single but I assume that is because it only has a single 2g memory stick. Bryan (147)
1242393 2011-11-08 03:37:00 Dont hold you breath, the Triton has other limitations. PENTIUM (426)
1242394 2011-11-08 04:38:00 Other limitations? Could you elucidate please, not that it really matters for an old codger like me? Bryan (147)
1242395 2011-11-08 07:22:00 As chilling_Silence pointed out, if 32bit, going above 3GB is not any use, as it wont be able to use it all. The jump from 2 to 3 will see a noticeable increase.

This machine has 4GB installed but its only 32Bit as well, says 3.5 usable (had a spare 2GB laying about, but no 1 GB)

I'd seriously doubt it's using dual-channel if it's got 3GB.
