1241751 2011-11-04 03:05:00 Hi there.
Ive a WD Green 1T HD on the bench.
Were there any bios patches to fix issues withe these ??
or known issues (apart from unreliability)

clutching at straws here, admittedly

1241752 2011-11-04 03:07:00 If it aint spinning up, no update is going to help it. :(
I'm not aware of any reliability issues with the green drives.

1241753 2011-11-04 03:13:00 BIOS patches wont fix hdd problems. See if there's a firmware update for it. Thats if its still working Speedy Gonzales (78)
1241754 2011-11-04 03:19:00 Sorry , I mean firmware. = HD BIOS sorta

Cheers, just though Id check 1st. I vaguely remember some particulardrives were fixable with firmware updates ??
Spins up, clunks, then spins down, so the is some minor hope...

but FYI
There are some possibilities from http://myharddrivedied.com/
Get a good drive, start it up : MUST be same model & firmware version (thats the the hard bit)
with good HD still running , remove logic board & put it on faulty HD.
This works when the faulty HD just cant read the initialization data off the platters.

havnt tried this myself yet, have never had the identical drive to try with.

1241755 2011-11-04 03:27:00 Earlier seagate hdds had probs, and if you updated the FW before it died totally, you had a chance of getting it to work again. The only other way you may get it to work again is if you use a TTL-RS232 adapter, and use a program like putty or hyperterminal. Look for the model, on the WD site. And see if there's a FW update Speedy Gonzales (78)
1241756 2011-11-07 01:58:00 Seagate had the big firmware issue, your WD will likely be hardware failure, dead head preamp or something. Agent_24 (57)
