1216563 2011-07-15 13:47:00 what do you mean paul? You're telling me I could quite happily have ditched my phone line?
If so, damnit, I would have done that 6 months ago if I'd known!

Have a talk to Orcon and ask to go LLU. If they say you can't ask why.

1216565 2011-07-18 00:43:00 Well, just rang orcon. Can't get unbundled since they're wholesale in this area. Neither can my sister a couple roads down.
My hatred of telecom stands.

1216566 2011-07-18 00:52:00 Depending on where you are, that's most probably because you're on a Cabinet.

Te Atatu is currently getting them all installed and people switched over to them, I know I am within a month.

They *do* have their own equipment in the Te Atatu Exchange though... I know that for certain!

Still Orcon's problem. They can put gear into these cabinets but they choose not to and when you call them they blame Telecom.. If Telecom hadn't put in fiber and these cabinets no doubt you would be moaning about poor data speeds and the like. Where I live we fortunately have a cabinet for without it ADSL speed speeds were just over dialup. I'm on Orcon and get a good discount for being on a cabinet rather than fed from the local exchange..

1216568 2011-07-18 12:13:00 Well whatever the case, I don't like paying for something I don't use.
Also annoying is the constant on off disconnections I'm getting, despite having replaced everything but the house's wiring, I still get kicked off frequently, then not at all for days, then all over again.
But like any isp says, it's apparently my fault.
Scratch hating telecom, I think i'll upgrade it to hating the internet in general.

And I'm in te atatu south now chilling, I WAS near the exchanges for the last two houses (still getting disconnections, mind, although I think that might have ended up being modem troubles in the end) but was also with vodafone and all that.

It's all just so damn frustrating and expensive.

I get about 30 -> 60 minutes a night between the hours of 5PM and 7:30PM.
We've redone all the wiring in the home.

What sort of disconnections are you getting? The same time? Or varying times? I'm down the far end of the peninsula, about 1.8K from the Exchange ...

1216570 2011-08-04 09:43:00 I have the "Orcon Genius Lite" aka "BoB Lite".
The phone is much better than it used to be, so is the Broadband. The Cap has gone up from 20gb to 30gb, and the cost has gone down from $93 to $68 a month.
Fax is possible if you reduce the transmission rate to 7200 and set the Class to Auto. I use "Essential Fax". The "Windows Fax" will not do it.
There is also a USB port for a hard drive, charging Ipods etc. There is a second USB port for 3G Wireless.

The "Genius" has a phone socket, and a second socket for a cable via a filter direct to the wall socket. The idea being that if the broadband packs up the phone will transfer to the line. I presume that you pay extra for this facility.

Voice Mail is sent to your Email address as an AVI file.
So far I am impressed, which for me is unusual!

1216571 2011-08-04 21:18:00 As an AVI file? That seems odd, I'd have suspected it'd be a .wav, .ogg or mp3 file? Chilling_Silence (9)
1216572 2011-08-04 23:46:00 I've been on Orcon Genius just one week now and so far satisfied. I'm not all that technically up with the play; just as long as it's a true plug and play device, I'm happy. The call quality seems somewhat improved on what I've had in the past, there's not the negatives I experienced with Skype, and I've been able to ditch (or retire) my Panasonic handset with the infinitely variable time zones it claimed to be in. :illogical

One feature I didn't know about, and one I certainly didn't know I was going to get is, the Orcon "Robot" sends an e-mail advising of any voicemail messages. Makes my smartphone even more useful when I'm out and about.

BTW, it's sent as a .wav file.

More than happy with the package, and I save about $20 a month as well. :2cents:
