Thats what should be happening, there should be no tolerance of thieving within our society irrespective of age. if there are no cells for them then take a hammer to their feet. |

You think people should be allowed to trespass on private property,go into someones house and and steal fittings because its not some crappy scrap metal? |

Certaily not if put it like that, but if say you are walking past a crumpled house and you pick up a light bulb, I don't consider that a crime. Where as, if that was say a watch, then there is the diffewrence. |

But thats not what he did as I understand it, he went into a house with tools in order to steal light fittings, which are quite different from lights.... |

Wasn't a house as I understood it - it was an abandoned shop that was already vacant before the earthquakes, so was certainly dangerous afterwards. The offender clearly wasn't too clever, he put himself in danger for two lightbulbs and got beaten up for his trouble. So I'd have thought the whack in the head he got and eating some dust while handcuffed might have been sufficient to have made the point about taking light bulbs. |
