"Bartlett says people will be able to use the handset built into Orcon Genius, or plug their own phones into the unit and make and receive calls just as they always have but over the internet including keeping their current phone number." www.orcon.net.nz |

Yes, losing your 'phone 'cause the internet is down is much worse than losing your internet 'cause the 'phone line is down;) |

It's poor journalism to claim it's in any way new or the first. I have had two phone lines on Xnet's VFX service for several years and found the quality to be excellent, and the reliability as good as my TelstraClear connection, which has been fine. |

| 1216550 | 2011-07-14 11:06:00 | I found the Xnet VOIP quality to be crap when I used it, but I think that was due to the router they recommended - if anyone was using the network or internet while making a phone call, the call quality would become terrible. | Greven (91) | ||

You have to be very careful to set it up correctly. You need to set the QoS (quality of service) settings so that it prioritises voice traffic. Of course if they are providing the router that should be default, but it wasn't for some models unfortunately. |

| 1216552 | 2011-07-14 20:28:00 | Yeah I found Xnets to be worse than 2talks, but anyways... I *guess* that Orcon could claim they are "the first" if they're bundling the phone *into* the device, as opposed to just the FXS port which still requires you to supply your own phone. |
