2011-11-08 00:52:00 | Just wondering is this possible? What would happen if you did? | Colpol (444) | |

2011-11-08 01:50:00 | If you use a plain USB-A to USB-A cable, you could damage something, complete with a fireworks show. | pcuser42 (130) | |
2011-11-08 02:18:00 | There is (was? - haven't seen them in shops for a while) hardware around to do this - see here (www.belkin.com) (Belkin). Not sure whether it emulates a network connection, or has its own software. You could try a crossover LAN cable if you want a more permanent connection, otherwise you may as well use an external HD or memory stick. I don't think there's many USB-A to USB-A cables out there, but I have seen them used on some external HD's using On-the-Go (OTG) mode so that you can dump your camera, etc contents to it & then upload to your PC later. If you have one of these, DO NOT use it on 2 PC's, unless you want to see if pcuser42 is right & you kind of like fireworks...

2011-11-08 03:03:00 | You can, it requires a special USB cable called a "bridged USB cable". Do not try using your standard USB cable, pcuser42 is right, you will burn out your usb ports and could damage your power supply. A much easier way is using an ethernet patch cable and a crossover cable as mushhead and speedy suggested (and much cheaper I suspect). | Iantech (16386) | |

2011-11-08 04:09:00 | I got one under the bench, similar to This One (www.bafo.com) --- Works OK on XP, but cant find any drivers for W7. Simple enough to use but a LAN connection is a lot less hassle :) The one I have is the BF-100C -- Looks similar -- they claim 6 Mbps Transfer Rate

2011-11-08 07:58:00 | Why all the negativity people? For starters 480mbps > 10/100mbps Second of all, USB is on *every* PC, and considering how many devices don't require drivers, it actually makes *sense* to think of an easy PC <-> PC link that way. Why not, serial and parallel ports used to be used for that all the time back in the day!
